Necessary Paradigm Shifts
• For the adult educators, the focus shifts from
teaching to learning; therefore, their activities
move from purveyor of knowledge to learning
coach, from sage on the stage to guide on the
side.
• For young learners the model of learning is
customized for his or her learning style and
pace.
• For the learning process there is a shift from a
model where time is the constant and learning
is the variable, to a model where learning is the
constant and time is the variable.
• For the system, a move from a model where
the school building is the hub of all academic
learning activities, to a model where the adult
educators are guiding the learners in various
ways to learn in all areas of their life and
community.
Essential Elements for the Optimization of Learning
• Adult educators trained as learning coaches, who
possess a high level of empathy for young learners,
are highly trained and current in brain-based
learning strategies, are creative problem solvers,
and embrace the paradigm of learning coach rather
than that of teacher.
• Access to the most current learning technology and
reliable high-speed internet access is essential.
• A learning space where collaboration and project-
based learning can occur, both in person and
virtually.
