About Learning
• Learning occurs both inside and outside of a formal
learning environment.
• Learning occurs through development within three
primary and mutually reinforcing domains;
knowledge, skills, and dispositions.
• Adults play an important role in facilitating and
guiding young learners in the learning process.
About Current Education Models
• Traditional schools tend to be restrictive and
narrowly focused, rendering them ineffective in
addressing the learning potential for all students.
• Traditional schools maintain daily and academic-
year student schedules that are highly restrictive
for many learners and are not based on the current
understanding of learning.
• Traditional school models tend to be
programmatically inefficient with limited ability to
create personal learning plans for each student.
About Adult Educators
• Skilled and empathetic adults are essential for guiding
and coaching young learners in their learning process.
• It is impossible for a teacher, or collection of teachers,
to possess a level of subject area knowledge
equivalent to that which is available to any learner via
technology. Therefore, the traditional model of
teacher as purveyor of knowledge is no longer the
most effective model for learning.
• The essential benefits provided by adult educators in
the learner process are guidance, accountability,
structure, intellectual stimulation, inspiration, and
motivation.
