This would im ply that the past, present and fu ture all ex ist. There is no present mo ment to dis tin guish past
                          from fu ture. All times co-ex ist, time just is. And so the fu ture is al ready out there. The on ly way to un der -
                          stand this was to link the three di men sions of space with the one di men sion of time to what be came known
                          as four-di men sion al space/time.  137

                          The pas sage of time is mere ly a sen sa tion cre at ed for us. Since we per ceive it in this way, we think
                     that what we do takes place with in a tem po ral proc ess. The fact is that we al ways live in the present “mo -

                     ment.” The con cept of pass ing time is il lu so ry.
                          Math e mat i cal phys i cist Roger Penrose of the University of Oxford has won count less awards for his
                     work on per cep tion. He gave this re ply to a ques tion by the host on a ra dio pro gram:

                          Physicist: We have this sub jec tive feel ing, that time goes by. But phys i cists would ar gue this is just an il lu sion.


                          Roger Penrose: Yes. I think phys i cists would agree that the feel ing of time pass ing is sim ply an il lu sion,
                          some thing that is not re al. It has some thing to do with our per cep tions.  138

                          The way that such a seem ing ly ob jec tive fac tor op er ates as a per cep tion in our minds and how all ti-
                     mes ex ist with in one sin gle time are with out doubt be yond our com pre hen sion. We can on ly un der stand
                     as much as Allah re veals to us. We can on ly know as much as He shows us. No doubt that it is an easy

                     mat ter for Allah to cre ate time as a per cep tion and to give rise to past, present and fu ture with in a con -
                     cept which ac tu al ly does not ex ist. That is be cause Allah is be yond time. He cre ates time, but is not sub -
                     ject to it. All events we per ceive as past or fu ture al ready ex ist in the mem o ry of Allah. They are all cre -
                     at ed in a sin gle mo ment. Therefore, all events be long ing to the fu ture have in fact been cre at ed at the sa-

                     me mo ment, and ex ist now. But since we are sub ject to time, we are as yet un a ble to see them.
                          All events we per ceive as the past—as when you re ceived a re port card from school or your first dri-
                     v ing les son—are al so con tained with in the in fi nite mem o ry of Allah, and even a stone you will trip over
                     in the fu ture as you walk along the road is de ter mined in His mem o ry. That is because Allah has cre at -

                     ed all events with in a sin gle mo ment.

                                                                                                               erates, and space shrinks
                                                                                                               in the direction of travel.
                                                                                                               Einstein showed that what
                                                                                                               we regard separately, as
                                                                                                               space and time, are compo-
                                                                                                               nents of a space-time con-
                                                                                                               tinuum. Therefore, space
                                                                                                               and time have been created
                                                                                                               as directly dependent on
                                                                                                               our perception.
