Pleasant Words from the Gospel

And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they
love to pray standing in the prayer houses and on the street
corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have re-

ceived their reward in full. (Matthew, 6:5)

Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: "... So you
must obey them and do everything they tell you. But do not do

what they do, for they do not practice what they preach. They
tie up heavy loads and put them on men's shoulders, but they
themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them. Every-
thing they do is done for men to see..." (Matthew, 23:1-5)

Woe to you... you love the most important seats in the syna-
gogues and greetings in the marketplaces. Woe to you, be-

cause you are like unmarked graves, which men walk over
                   without knowing it. (Luke, 11:43-44)
