They Worry about Other People's
Approval, Instead of God's

Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in
him. But... they would not confess their faith... for they loved
praise from men more than praise from God. (John, 12:42-43)

They Do Not Do What They Tell
Others to Do

Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: "... So you
must obey them and do everything they tell you. But do not do
what they do, for they do not practice what they preach. They

tie up heavy loads and put them on men's shoulders, but they

themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them. Every-
thing they do is done for men to see..." (Matthew, 23:1-5)

How can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me take the
speck out of your eye,' when you yourself fail to see the plank
in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of
your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck
from your brother's eye. (Luke, 6:42)
