9. Storming the Ka'bah and the subsequent bloodshed:

The year in which he [Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh)] will emerge, peo ple will
per form pil grim age to geth er and gath er with out an imam. The pil -
grims will be loot ed, and there will be a bat tle at Mina in which many
will be slain, and blood will flow un til it runs over the Jamra al-'Aq a -
ba. [Jamra: one of the stone pil lars rep re sent ing sa tan that are stoned
dur ing the pil grim age.] (Narrated by 'Amr ibn Shu'ayb, al-Hakim
and Nu'aym ibn Hammad.)

People make pil grim age with out an imam lead ing them. Big wars
break out when they come down to Mina, and they are en twined just
the way dogs en twine, and tribes at tack each oth er. This strife is so
wide spread that legs are bur ied in lakes of blood. (Al-Muttaqi al-Hin-
di, Al-Burhan fi 'Alamat al-Mahdi Akhir az-Zaman, p. 35.)

In the month of Dhu al-Qa'dah, the nations will wage war, pil grims
will be kid napped, and there will be bloody wars. Great sins will be
com mit ted be side the Ka'bah. (Al-Muttaqi al-Hindi, Al-Burhan fi
'Alamat al-Mahdi Akhir az-Zaman, p. 34.)

The phrase "the year in which he [Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh)] will
emerge" draws attention to a massacre that will occur on the date of
Hazrat Mahdi's (pbuh) emergence. In 1979, a massacre very like this one
occurred during the Ka'bah raid, which took place during the pilgrimage
month at the very beginning of the period during which the signs of
Hazrat Mahdi's (pbuh) advent appeared—the first day of the Islamic year
1400 (21 November 1979).
