AIRCRAFT SAFETY
14
Baggage and cargo
(CAA Rule 91.213 & 91.215)
• Equipment and cargo is to be loaded and unloaded only
under the supervision of the pilot or flight crew who are
responsible for keeping the aircraft within its weight and
balance limits. Such equipment and cargo is not to be placed
in front of emergency exits.
• Passengers are to stow baggage in baggage lockers or under
passenger seats so that it will not slide forward under crash
impact or hinder evacuation of the aircraft in an emergency.
• Know the approximate weight of your bags and equipment
if asked.
• Be prepared when the aircraft arrives – keep crews and
equipment together.
• Secure all loose items – clothing, pack straps, empty containers.
Package and cover loose items to avoid injury to passengers.
• Ensure axes, McLeod tools and chainsaw
bars all have protective covers on. Ensure fuel can lids are
tightened. Declare any dangerous goods you may be carrying
(wet cell batteries, petrol, engines with fuel in them, LPG).
Safety rules apply to these.
Use the “manifesting forms” and weights provided in the
“ready reckoner” at rear of this booklet. (Page 35.)
