                        Helicopter marshalling

                        & marshalling signals



                         The Helicopter Marshall or Helibase Manager
                         is responsible for ensuring the area is clear
                         of personnel and equipment during landings
                         and takeoffs.

                         The Loadmaster or Helicopter Marshall shall use the following hand
                         signals as specified in this document.
                         Personnel marshalling helicopters or conducting sling load operations
                         shall wear at all times:

                         •  protective firefighting overalls complying with the National Rural
                            Fire Authority (NRFA) standards as posted on the NRFA website
                         •  safety work boots meeting NRFA standards

                         •  eye goggles (not safety glasses)
                         •  ear protectors of appropriate class (class 5 suggested.
                            Foam ear plugs are inadvisable if not up to class 5 standard)
                         •  high visibility vest meeting NRFA standards

                         •  protective leatherwork gloves
                         •  reflectorised safety helmet with chin-strap.
                         When marshalling, stand with back to wind with both arms
                         outstretched to indicate landing area. Indicate wind direction with a
                         flag or visual indicator, or stand with your arms raised above your head.
