Best practice specifies:
1 In forward-facing seats wearing lap belts:
- rest head and chest against legs Ground safety
- grasp ankles or lower legs or wrap
both arms around thighs behind knees
- head face down in lap, not to one side.
Fixed wing safety
2 In seats equipped with shoulder harness:
- lock inertia reel if equipped and
if possible (e.g. Bell 212, front seat),
or tighten harness as much as possible
- if forward facing, sit back in seat with
chin resting on sternum
- if rearward facing, sit back in seat Helicopter safety
with head on seat back or headrest
- place feet firmly flat on floor in front
of the seat edge
- grasp seat edge – don’t grip harness.

3 After landing:
- wait for all movement to stop
- leave the aircraft in an orderly manner
