6. Don’t leave loose objects near aircraft or landing 7
areas where they may be blown about. (Garments, helmets Under Civil Aviation Rule
and tarps for example.) 91.211
7. Remain well clear of landing and takeoff areas when aircraft are
operating unless a specific task requires you to be in the area.
Keep all bystanders well back from the aircraft, preferably behind
a marked line.
8. Don’t smoke within 15m (50 ft) of an aircraft, fuel dump or Ground safety
refuelling equipment.
9. No campfires or camping allowed near helibases.
10. Stay away from any moving parts.
11. Always follow the directions given by the pilot, flight crew,
Air Support Supervisor, Airbase Manager, Air Observer or Aircraft
Marshall. Approach and depart from the aircraft when the pilot Fixed wing safety
or flight crew signals you to do so.
12. If moving large crews, conduct a briefing (Safety) before they
enter the aircraft. Printed cards containing safety information
pertinent to the type of aircraft or work may supplement
briefings. (See pages 31-36 of this booklet.)
13. Keep crews and their equipment together to one side,
upwind of the landing area. Instruct them to face away Helicopter safety
during takeoff or landings.
14. Have each person responsible for their own gear and be ready
to board as soon as the pilot signals. Close vehicle doors, windows
and canopies to prevent damage.
