Turn l. on to Jewry St following a s/p “Southhampton / Romsey”. Almost immediately, Jewry St
curves r. Go str. ahd. on to High St, the B3040.
Expert navigation checkpoint: As you drive along High St, you will see the Westgate, a stone
gateway that formed part of the original city walls, ahead of you. As you pass Westgate it will be
on your l.
Immediately past that stone gate you will come to a roundabout. Take the 3rd exit on to Upper
High St, the B3420, s/p “All other routes” Note: The 1st exit from the r/bout has a gate, barring
entry.
Expert navigation checkpoint: As you go through the r/bout on to Upper High St, the Westgate
Inn will be on your l.
At the Y i/s take the l. hand fork and immediately cross over a bridge over the railway lines.
On the far side of the railway overbridge, take the 2nd exit from a small r/bout on to St Pauls Hill,
the B3049.
Now follow signs to Stockbridge, Salisbury and the A30.
Remain on Stockbridge Rd, the B3049.
10.9 mi 51.1138,-1.4887 Enter Stockbridge on Winton Hill, the B3049. At the r/bout at the bottom
of Winton Hill, take the 2nd exit on to High St, the A30, s/p “Salisbury / A30”.
Follow the A30 through Stockbridge.
Side Trip to The Wallops From the A30 . . .
51.1123, -1.5778 Bear right on to Romsey Rd, the B3084 s/p “The Wallops”`
This curiously named huddle of quintessential English villages is worth a potter about if you have
the time. The name comes from the Saxon word “weaella” meaning water, and hop, meaning
valley. Thus, The Water Valley.
Nether Wallop with its thatched cottages hugging narrow lanes was the location for BBC series
“Miss Marple”, a tv adaptation of the Dame Agatha Christie detective novels.
To visit Middle and Over Wallop, turn r. in The Causeway from Five Bells Lane, then l. on to Farley
St. Follow Farley St to its i/s with the B343 in Middle Wallop. Cross over the B343 on to Station
Rd to visit Over Wallop. To leave the area return to the B343 and turn l. (south-west). Follow the
B343 to the i/s with the A30 at Lopcombe Corner. Pick up the track at that point.
Continuing to Salisbury . . .
Just out of Middle Wallop on the northern edge of the village is the Museum of Army Flying.

7.1 mi 51.1176, -1.6454 At Lopcombe Corner continue on to the A30. s/p “Salisbury A30”.
Go through 3 roundabouts and you’ll begin to catch glimpses of Salisbury Cathedral’s spire in the
distance ahead of you.
