Petworth to Winchester

        This route (Touring Route 8 on the map) will take you through the heart of the South Downs
        National Park, a pastiche of rolling hills, river valleys, ancient woodlands, unkempt
        heathlands, thriving villages and market towns.

        Leaving Petworth to continue to Winchester turn l. out of the entrance gates on to Park Rd. (You
        can't turn r.  - it's a one way street). Take the next r. into Park Rd. Cont. str. along Park Rd, again
        with Somerfield on your l. and again turn r. into Saddlers Row.


        This time at the end of Saddlers Row turn l. into Pound St s/posted "Midhurst A272 / Chichester
        (A285)".

        At the small roundabout take the r. hand turn on to Tillington Rd following a b&w sign to "Midhurst /
        Tillington A272 /  Lodsworth".

        Continue on the A272 through Tillington to Easebourne


        50.9958, -0.72601. In Easebourne bear left on to Easebourne Lane, following a sign to Midhurst.

        Just before Midhurst the A272 merges with the A286 for a short distance through the town.


        Midhurst in the heart of the South Downs National Park is surrounded by diverse countryside
        including acres of attractive downland, woodland, wetland and heath, ideal for active pursuits such
        as walking, cycling and horse-riding. The town is situated on the River Rother and is home to the
        ruin of the Tudor Cowdray House and the stately Victorian Cowdray Park. Country Life magazine
        rated Midhurst the second best town in England.
