Arsenal will play Chelsea in this season’s Continental Cup Final
at Selhurst Park on 5th March after both teams won contrasting
semi finals during the week.
The Gunners were first in action on Wednesday night
against Cup holders Manchester City and the tie was as tight as
expected between two evenly matched teams. Both teams had
spells on top and it was Arsenal who came closest to breaking the
deadlock in normal time when Lina Hurtig hit the bar.
The only goal of the game came three minutes into extra
time as Hurtig broke down the left and cut the ball back for Stina Blackstenius to slot home.
City fought back to try and get back on level terms but Arsenal stood firm for a hard earned
1-0 victory.
Chelsea made the trip across London to take on West Ham Utd and never looked
back after a devastating start to the game. Sam Kerr put them ahead after three minutes and
after Fran Kirby added a second, Kerr put them three ahead inside the opening quarter,
before completing her hat-trick in first half injury time.
After the break, Chelsea did not relent with Lauren James increasing their lead and
Kerr netting her fourth on the hour, before Guro Reiten rounded off the scoring for a 7-0 win
five minutes later, to book a fourth successive appearance in the Final.
Glasgow City are thrilled to announce the signing of Swedish player Anna Oscarsson from
Damallsvenskan side Eskilstuna United.
The 26-year-old, capped 5 times by Sweden can play in midfield and defence and has
been a regular in all top three Swedish sides she has played for, most recently Eskilstuna
whom she joined in 2020. Oscarsson has also had spells with Linköpings and Hammarby.
A technically gifted and hardworking player, Oscarsson will be a real asset to Leanne
Ross and her side as the race continues for the SWPL title and the Scottish Cup takes pace.
The Swedish player joins Linda Motlhalo in the January window, as well as the pro
signings of Sophia Martin and Lisa Forrest are set to bolster the squad competition for the
remainder of the season.
Anna Oscarsson commented on signing with Glasgow City: “I'm so excited to have
signed with Glasgow City. I had a very good first impression of how professionally the club
was run. The high ambitions of the club are also in line with my own.
“I am looking forward to getting to know everyone and start the hard work to reach
our goals this season.”
Interim Head Coach Leanne Ross added: “I am delighted a player of Anna Oscarsson's
quality has chosen to sign here at Glasgow City. She arrives with a vast amount of experience
having played for top Swedish sides Hammarby, Linkopings and Eskilstuna, as well as
winning five senior national team caps for Sweden.
“Anna has excellent defensive attributes and will certainly add strength to our back
line, while her calmness under pressure and ability on the ball mean that she also loves to
get forward to support the team in attack.
“It is great to have Anna here and I am excited to see what she can add to our team."
