Woking Ladies 0 Badshot Lea 3
Badshot Lea made a fine start to life at
Regional league level with an opening day
       Southern Region Division One South
       victory at Woking.
            The Thames Valley Counties League
champions were indebted to the clinical
finishing of Eleanor Blake against a Woking
side who played well at times and created
numerous chances in the second half
especially but simply could not find the net.
The initial exchanges were very even
with little sign of an opening but all that
changed when Blake got free in space on 19
minutes to the right of the goal and chipped
a perfect 20 yard lob over Roz Markham for
a superb opener. The visitors dominated Fran Cotter is put under pressure by Eleanor Blake
play for a while and only a superb save by (www.jamesprickett.co.uk).
Markham, turning wide a close range shot on
       28 minutes prevented further damage.
The hosts came alive in attack just before the break and went very close to
equaliser on three occasions in a minute. Visiting keeper Jodie Gray made two good
blocks in one on one situations to preserve the Baggies' advantage at the break.
Woking had a big chance to level at the start of the eecond half but Gray was again
on hand to beat away a close range effort and within two minutes Blake had nipped in at
the other end to tuck away a loose ball from close range to double the lead on 49 minutes.
Woking continued to press for long periods but the Badshot defence was generally
sound, getting a number of blocks and clearances to frustrate the hosts.
Once again, Blake was om hand to finish a good passing sequence with another
neat finish on 69 minute to give the scoreline a somewhat unreal look based on the
balance of play but there was no denying the difference between the sides in front of goal.
Kaitlin Howard went close from a Woking corner whilst sub Esme Parsons was
inches away from a late consolation goal at the far post from another set piece but the
ball just would not go in and the victorious Baggies could reflect on a highly satisfying
       Regional league debut.
