Kayleigh Currivan all scored a goal apiece for Ashford, with City's consolation coming from
Frances Steele.
Chesham Utd scored four times without reply against Wymondham Town to notch
up their first points. The Clarets got off to a flying start with goals from Millie Congerton,
Gemma Fraser and Keunna Dill inside the opening eighteen minutes, before Kate Bowers
rounded off the scoring midway through the second half.
Division One South West
AFC Bournemouth lead the way on goal difference following an eight-goal victory against
Keynsham Town. Shannon Albuery led the scoring for the Cherries with a four-goal haul and
she was joined on the scoresheet by Helen Bleazard, Jessica Treweek, Abby Jones and Helen
Corbin.
Exeter City are in second half despite a fine 3-2 win away to Southampton Women.
The home side led at half time through an own goal but goals in quick succession just after the
hour from Connie Pengelly and Emily Toogood put Exeter in front. Lucy Mear levelled matters
once more with ten minutes remaining but Exeter were to have the final say, Sarah Stacey
scoring an extra time winner.
Selsey Women have got off to a good start, which they kept up with a 6-1 victory over
AFC St Austell. Natasha Wild netted twice for the Seals along with Laura da Silva, Emma
Blakely, Gemma Simmonds and Skye Bacon, with Jasmine Allen replying late on.
Portishead Town made it two wins on the trot as they defeated Maidenhead Utd
4-0. The Berkshire side were belatedly starting their season but a goal in each half from Ellie
Bell, plus further strikes from Ellie Strippel and Brooke Stirrup, sealed a result which takes
Portishead into fifth place.
Newly promoted Moneyfields claimed their first victory in the league following two
opening draws, winning 5-0 away to Larkhall Athletic. All of the goals came in the first half
and it was a great day for Jade Widdows as she netted four of them, with Kim Whitcombe also
on the scoresheet for the Moneys.
Reserve Section round-up...
Newcastle Utd recorded the biggest victory on the opening day of the season in the Northern
Division, beating Liverpool Feds 4-1 with goals from Georgina Spraggon (2), Olivia Bennett
and Lucy Gilbert. Anna Wuerfel scored twice and Grace Monkhouse added the other as
Durham Cestria won 3-2 against Barnsley and Middlesbrough beat Stockport County
by the same margin thanks to a Lydia Maidens brace and Amber Rodgers. Hannah Markey and
Kayla WIlliams were on target for Bradford City in their 2-2 draw with Hull City whilst
Chorley also shared four goals with Leeds Utd, who scored through Emily Sykes and Katie
Astle.
Stoke City are the opening day leaders in the Midland Division after Nuala Miszkiel hit
a hat-trick in their 6-1 victory away to Sporting Khalsa. Sophie Garratt, Seanna McCann-
Lloyd and Alicia Hatton added the other goals, with Heden M'Barindi replying. Isabella Hodson
(2) and Molly Towers accounted for the goals as Derby County beat Stourbridge 3-0 and
Nottingham Forest were also 3-0 winners over Doncaster Rovers Belles, thanks to a
Summa Betts brace and Takiah Burnett. Jasmine Lawton scored a hat-trick and Neve Hincks
the other for Lincoln City in their 4-2 victory over Long Eaton Utd and Wolverhampton
Wanderers defeated West Bromwich Albion 3-1, courtesy of Beth Grady, Alisha Miller
and Phoebe Hill.
Poppy Bridgen was on target twice along with Erin Pope and Kelena Walters-Wright as
Queen's Park Rangers won 4-1 away to Cambridge Utd in the South East & Central
Division and Stevenage Women defeated Cambridge City by the same scoreline, thanks to
Susan Uwaifo (2), Ciara Craig and Matilda Thomas-O'Keefe. Isabelle Thorogood, Jessica
Wright and Lily Wolstenholme were the markswomen for Hashtag Utd in their 3-0 success
away to Watford. Brooke John bagged a hat-trick for Enfield Town as they won 5-3 against
news@womenssoccerscene.co.uk
