Honours were even as the top two at the start of play clashed at the Emirates
Stadium, with Arsenal and Chelsea sharing a 1-1 draw. In front of a crowd
in excess of 46,000, a coolly taken penalty by Kim Little sent the Gunners
into a second half lead which they held until the dying minutes, when Sam
Kerr scored an equaliser for Chelsea that preserves their lead of three points
at the top, having played a game more than the teams immediately below
them.
Manchester Utd then took the opportunity to muscle inbetween the
two sides, by powering to a 6-0 victory over Liverpool. Lucia Garcia gave
United a sixth minute lead which was doubled by Alessia Russo, and Hayley Ladd added a third
ahead of half time. United kept up the heat after the break with an Emma Koivisto own goal
increasing their lead, before further strikes from Martha Thomas and Rachel Williams rounded
off a great day for Marc Skinner’s side.
Manchester City meanwhile stay in touch with the top three after recording their
seventh win in eight matches, 1-0 away to West Ham Utd. Khadija Shaw settled matters with
her ninth goal of the season, five minutes into the second half.
Defeat for West Ham means that Everton replace in fifth place following a hard fought
3-2 victory over Reading FC Women. Katja Snoeijs and Jess Park gave the Toffees a two-goal
lead at the interval and after Justine Vanhaevermaet pulled one back on the hour, Gabby George
restored the advantage a minute later. Deanna Cooper gave Reading renewed hope but Everton
held on for their fifth win of the season.
Aston Villa got back to winning ways with a 2-1 success against Tottenham Hotspur.
All of the goals came in a ten minute spell during the first half with Beth England giving Spurs
the lead on her debut, but Villa hit back to take the Aston Villa 2 (Dali 34, Daly 38)
points with goals in quick succession from Kenza Tottenham Hotspur 1 (England 28)
Dali and Rachel Daly. -
