Leicester City FC Women is delighted to confirm the
signing of goalkeeper Janina Leitzig from FC Bayern
Munich on loan until the end of the 2022-23 Barclays
Women’s Super League season.
The highly-rated 23-year-old goalkeeper brings a
wealth of experience to King Power Stadium having
made over 100 career appearances, including in the
UEFA Women’s Champions League. She made her
debut for Leicester on Sunday in their 3-0 victory over
Brighton & Hove Albion.
Speaking to LCFC.com, German youth
international Janina said: “It feels good to be here. The
facilities are great. I’m really excited to train, I’m
excited for the upcoming games and excited to be part
of this team.
“I have lots of experience in Germany and I hope that will be useful here in England. I have
watched some games - the league is very physical and the quality is good too.”
Leitzig began her youth career with TuS Mingolsheim before being scouted by TSG 1899
Hoffenheim in 2013. Following eight successful years in the Baden-Württemberg region of
Germany, the shot-stopper attracted the interest of German giants FC Bayern Munich.
Appearances in league competition and the UEFA Women's Champions League followed for
Leitzig as she impressed during the bourgeoning stages of her career on the continent.
Meanwhile, Leicester have also confirmed that two of their squad will be leaving on loan
deals as youngster Ellen Jones and Connie Scofield have joined Coventry United on loan until the
end of the 2022-23 FA Women's Championship campaign.
20-year-old Jones - who joined the Club from Colorado Buffaloes in September 2022 - joins
United having featured twice for the Foxes during her first four months with the club.
Scofield will now continue her development with the Championship outfit having made six
appearances for the Foxes since joining the Club from Birmingham City in 2021.
Leeds United Women are pleased to confirm the signing of exciting forward Jess Rousseau, who
joins the club from Lincoln City.
The 19-year-old has been in fine form during her time at Lincoln and will now link up with
her new squad immediately as they embark on a busy second half of the season.
From 14 appearances with the Imps, Rousseau scored an impressive 12 goals which has been
a key part of why the side are 2nd in the Division One Midlands table.
The Whites are currently mid-table in Division One North but have a number of games in
hand on opponents around them, which could see them move back up the standings if they win
those matches.
Rick Passmoor wanted to bring his latest signing to the club for some time, and he was
pleased to secure her signature.
He told the Leeds United official website: “For several weeks we have been looking to
strengthen the forward line.
“We’ve been looking around at which players meet our profile who have that hunger, along
with desire, and Jess fitted that profile perfectly.
“She’s the leading scorer at Lincoln this year and was also top-scorer last season, as well as
being their Player of the Season, so it’s a really strong addition to the side.
“Jess will add goals as well as pace to our forward areas, which is really important in this
division. She also has a real desire to learn and improve, so she ticked a lot of boxes.
“It’s competitive and challenging in this team to get a shirt and Jess is relishing that
challenge, so we’re really pleased to welcome her to Leeds United.” (leedsunited.com)
