Liskeard Athletic will be making history this Sunday when they play Oxford Utd in the
Second Round of the Vitality Women's FA Cup. This will be the furthest round that the club
has ever reached in this competition and also, the best ever FA Cup run for a Cornish
women's team.
Liskeard have got past Seaton Town, Stockwood Wanderers and Bishop's Lydeard in
previous rounds and now get a chance to take on the FAWNL Southern Premier Division
leaders on home turf.
"Not many will give us a chance and paper it's a real uphill task," Janina Augustyno-
wicz told Women's Soccer Scene. "But, this is the FA Cup and this competition in both the
men's and women's game has always and will always give opportunities to create unbeliev-
able memories, allow teams to produce moments of magic and will always dare people to
dream and that is exactly what we believe can happen.
"Our girls have trained well this week, they have been given everything possible to
give themselves the best chance to pull off something remarkable. However, this won't be
won by just the eleven starting players, the seven players named on the bench, the players
that get on or the management. It will be won by all of those combined along with the
support of the committee at our club and the supporters that come to watch."
"I always enjoy playing in the Vitality FA Cup, each game is completely unpredictable
and the challenges you have to face are always so exciting," added Chloe Williams, who was
the competition's top scorer last season. "It gives you a chance to play against sides you
wouldn't normally and test yourselves against the best players around.
"The sense of occasion surrounding the FA Cup has given us a massive boost over the
past month or so. We are obvious underdogs in this fixture, but it's a great opportunity to
play a quality standard. I am certainly looking forward to sharing this experience with the
girls and the club and hopefully it will be a day to remember in Liskeard's history."
Coventry Sphinx will be playing the biggest match in their history on Sunday when they
play Solihull Moors in the Second Round of the Vitality Women's FA Cup.
The squad is certainly looking forward to this fixture, but obviously there are thoughts
of excitement along with a few nerves as well. The squad have been working hard for weeks
and weeks now and Sunday's fixture is their reward for all the hard work.
This week, they have got together and had a good conversation around how they
approach the game and the part they want to play in the fixture. They are under no illusion
that they are heading into this fixture as underdogs, however they have confidence in their
own ability and feel they can play a massive part in this occasion.
Solihull Moors will obviously be the biggest test this new group of players at Sphinx
have faced so far this season and Moors will also be confident coming into the game as they
are doing well in their league this season as well, but whatever happens, the club can be
proud of its achievements and use it as a motivation going forward.
