We eat a ham, and cheese
sandwich at the Quiet Man
Café in quaint little Cong. I
photograph a lovely window
that I use in a painting later.
Windows are things you
don’t usually see – they are
things you see through. Old
windows have lived. They
have the marks of life, color
and texture, a life of their
own. Fading, weathering or
jubilant with new paint,
proudly flaunting the
cracks, the dents, the
scratches, the evidence of time and happenings. It takes years
to grow character. I love to paint pictures of windows.
The Market
Cross is at the
foot of the main
street and its
inscription in
raised letters
translates to, “A
prayer for Nicol
and Gilbert
O’Duffy” who
were abbots of
Cong Abbey
