COMMITMENT TO DIVERSITY
Police FCU is committed to creating and maintaining a workplace in which all employees have an
opportunity to participate and contribute to the success of the Credit Union. All employees are valued
for their skills, experience, and unique perspectives. This commitment to a diverse workforce is
embodied in the way we do business at Police FCU.
EMPLOYMENT OF CLOSE PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Police FCU has a long-standing tradition of creating and maintaining a friendly, yet professional
atmosphere; therefore, it is of the utmost importance that as an employer we acknowledge the
possibility of relatives, spouses or prior close friends working simultaneously at our branches.
Relatives, spouses, and/or close friends maintain the same legal and policy rights as all employees.
However, it is strictly prohibited that relatives, spouses and/or friends work in a supervisor/employee
scenario to prevent conflicts of interest and appearances of favoritism that may result from the
appointment, re-appointment, and/or supervision of an employee by a close personal relationship.
This policy does not prevent the development of friendships or romantic relationships between
employees, including relationships between employees and non-employees; however, the policy shall
establish boundaries for such relationships to avoid actual, potential, perceived favoritism, or
improper influence over an individual’s terms and conditions of employment, conflicts of interest, and
opportunities for collusion.
If two employees develop an intimate relationship, all activities that foster intimate physical contact
is strictly prohibited on Police FCU property. If two employees marry, they may not continue to hold
positions of supervisor/supervisee relative to one another for more than a period of six months after
the marriage. Every effort will be made to affect a transfer that will be mutually advantageous sooner,
if reasonably possible.
Police FCU is committed to preventing favoritism and/or discriminatory employment practices
throughout the organization. Husband managing his spouse, sister managing her brother, or friend
managing a close friend could become troublesome to this Credit Union’s policy. Considering that
Supervisors perform performance evaluations and make a host of other decision that affect
employees, it is impossible for a Supervisor to remain objective when the employee is a relative,
spouse or close friend. Executive Management and Human Resources have the overall responsibility
to ensure compliance. Applicants for employment are required to fully disclose if a relative, spouse or
close friend is employed by Police FCU at the time of application. Employees are required to disclose
within 30 days if a relative, spouse or friend becomes employed by Police FCU and falls under their
direction or indirect supervision immediately to Human Resources.
