WAREHAM UNITED REFORMED CHURCH
In Memoriam David Charles Pearce

28 February 1933 - 15 February 2024
David Charles Pearce has died aged 90 after
a short illness. He was a much loved
member, Elder and friend of Wareham
United Reformed Church, which he attended
for many years. We enjoyed his kindly
teasing and in return he was teased about
his love of food. A life long bachelor, David
was a very private person and was held in
great affection by his family and friends. He
was 'Uncle Dids' to his family and he always
enjoyed seeing his family and his many friends.
He endeared himself to others at an early age, as is shown by this
verse of a poem to David by his Aunt Nora:
Happy little fellow
With eyes of shining blue.
When you came to stay with us,
All are in love with you.
All who knew him will remember those shining blue eyes and his
customary cheerfulness.
Born in Bradford in 1933, David was one of three children of the
Reverend Stanley Pearce and his wife. The family moved around
the country according to the Reverend's various churches, finally
settling in Grays in Essex, where David went to school. David was
called up for National Service and was a driver in the Royal Army
Service Corps. He spent some time in Germany and, when he
was demobbed, lived in Manchester. Here he became a teacher
for the Blind. In 1965 he came to Dorset and worked for Dorset
County Council as a home teacher and social worker for the Blind.
He settled in Wareham.
