PF: Amazing. Yeah, I mean, I'm just having a look at his tracks and the lyrics are quite
interesting [laughs]. Yeah, I'm kind of partnering with Paolo Fuschi, the Sicilian

guitarist and Justin Shearn from Manchester on piano. So I've got that this weekend
and what I'm also doing on the same day, which is Saturday, is a stripped-down set
at Marsden Jazz Festival of the Pat Fulgoni Blues Experience stuff because, I don't

know if you know much about Marsden Jazz Festival, that's quite a biggie round our
way and they shoehorn bands into every inch. A bit like Colne Blues Festival. So we're
    doing a blues gig [chuckles].

BiTS: Wonderful. Well, let's get back to the beginning, if we can. Tell me, how did you
get into singing in the first place?

PF: Oh right. Well, as a kid I

                                                                          came from a multicultural
                                                                          background. My mum was Irish,
my dad was Italian. We had kind

of, I guess, music like Herb
Alpert and a bit of accordion
music from my old man's village

and I picked up singing from
church and at school, I guess.

BiTS: What was the first band
                                                                          that you worked with?

PF: Well, I mean, it was until

after college. I'd kind of hung
around in the band scene at
                                                                          Huddersfield Polytechnic, where
I studied and didn't really feel

kind of confident enough to be
in a band, but I always hung out

with musicians and kind of partied hard. After my course I formed a band called Kava
Kava, which is spelled K-A-V-A K-A-V-A, and we were like a psychedelic kraut rock
type band. We actually got signed which was a miracle after a Marquee showcase
down in London, we did the Marquee Club. We were signed to Delirium Records who

specialised in kind of proggy psychedelic stuff. And yeah, we released two albums on
that label and toured Europe. That band continued for a number of years, and we

discovered dance music influences, and I ended up kind of releasing it myself after
two albums on Delirium. We toured the States, China, most of Europe. You know, we
had a good time with that band.

BiTS: You’ve had an amazing amount of experience. I gather you do a bit of other
kinds of singing as well, besides blues, I mean.

PF: Yeah, I sing on dance music as well from time to time. It's quite interesting, you

can leave the blues. I've always been a blues and soul singer really, but it's nice when
