a British band to do that gig. So that was how I morphed from the Czech album to
the British one [chuckles].
BiTS: Okay, there's some fabulous music on “The Dark Side Of The Blues”. Did you
choose the tracks yourselves? I mean, some of my favourite songs are here, ‘Help Me’,
‘Thrill Is Gone’, ‘Texas Flood’. Absolutely fabulous stuff.
PF: To be honest, I took a lot of advice from Richard Mader, the guy that runs the
studio. Martinek, Jan Martinek was the senior guitarist and his son Lukáš Martinek
was the second guitarist in that band, and although I had kind of listened to a lot of
blues, I was nowhere near an expert, and we just kind of recorded it in our
discussions and, you know, kept what sounded good really. I was really pleased to
get to sing some B.B. King, but there was no plan with that album at all. It was very
much kind of turn up to the studio and let's do a blues record.
BiTS: Your version of ‘The Thrill Is Gone’, some people have said, and I actually tend
to agree with them, it's actually better than B.B. King.
PF: Wow. I mean, that amazed me. That was in Blues Matters, I think. Was that the
latest version?
BiTS: The latest version is even better.
PF: That's myself and Sam Bolt, the pianist in the Blues Experience. Yeah, I'm really
pleased how that came out.
BiTS: Absolutely terrific stuff.
PF: Ah, fantastic.
BiTS: Before we move on to the new record, tell me something about going to Texas
for Blues South by Southwest (SxSW).
