PPO Diaries

obviously it did not work and I had a face-palm moment. NEVER MANIPULATE ANY DATA TO FIT
                     YOUR SOLUTION.
                 • I kept taking notes of anything and everything as its very easy to forget a few things when you
are working on something that you haven’t done before. I also worked on my HR questions as
they are asked in the final presentations.
                 • Apart from multiple presentations to the client, we had to prepare a final deck for the leadership
of PwC. We had a session with Kavan (Partner, Campus ambassador for NITIE) and he briefed us
as to what partners expect, I also talked to my director regarding final presentation and got to
know that people at the top don’t care about finer details, numbers is what matters to them.
That was a great insight. I also got my final deck reviewed by my director and although he was
travelling, he sent me the feedback at 2 am and those were very very good suggestions.
                 • I also talked to alumni who had received PPO and tried to understand the expectations of
                     partners for final presentation.

                 • I also timed my presentation by practising it at least 10 times. So, by the time, I went for final
presentation, I was so confident that I could have presented without the decks.

❖ What are the things to keep in mind in the internship?
          • There are two things that could happen, either you will like the work/industry and would want a PPO or
you won’t like the work/industry and would want to try for something different in LRP/CPR. But you
should work with the same zeal in both the cases because even if you don’t like the work you need to
              justify it during LRP/CRP.
          • You are there to learn and you are bound to make mistakes in the process. So you should not be
overwhelmed if things are not going your way. Keep trying, Ask you mentor and things will fall in place.
          • One of my takeaways from the internship is that Consulting is a People Business. You have to constantly
interact/negotiate with different people. In my case I was dealing with people across hierarchies, right
from a blue collar worker to the Plant head and SBU head.

❖ What pre-internship preparation do you suggest for juniors?
          • Consultants are supposed to be generalists, so there is not specific subject you should focus on but since
NITIE has this brand image of SCM/Ops, I would recommend to just brush up the SCM/Ops jargons like
Time & motion study, Line balancing, Takt time, TAT time, Kaizen, Kanban etc to be able to engage in a
              sophisticated conversation.
          • Although I did not work on it, I would recommend learning VBAs/Macros as sometimes the projects can
be data heavy and some people had to work on VBAs/Macros.
