BEYOND BASICS
Reflexive reactions are learned responses! Picture a soft rubber
ball thrown at a baby for the first time. The baby doesn't "know"
to catch or move away and so is hit by the ball. After a while, the
baby will blink in response to the ball. The baby is learning to

respond. Eventually, the response will become catching or moving
so as to not be hit by the ball. Likewise, getting punched or kicked
will cause a learned reaction to block or move. This response will
become more reflexive the more that it is practiced.
The stimuli (punch) are automatically responded to without
thinking. The brain "sees" the stimuli and responds automatically
and subconsciously. A good example is a basic Block and Counter
punch.
The idea now is to develop your
attacking speed to be just to as
reflexive.
Imagine being able to

launch a hand strike the instant
you “see” an opening.
When learning any new action, it’s
usually accompanied with a
conscious thought to initiate the
action. The brain first has to
recognize the stimuli and then it issues the command to strike.
Your mental command might be thinking something like, “Go”,
“Now”, or any other thought to initiate the action. As I began
