BEYOND BASICS
striking my cloth, I would first think “Now” and then strike. But
doing so, I would miss my window of opportunity! I determined
that I had to get my strike closer to the “Now” thought. I also
noticed my striking hand would tighten, telegraphing of my
intention. I placed my striking hand lightly on top of the relaxed
fist of the other, much like the Kung Fu salute. This provided a
feedback method where I could feel any pre-tension or movement
before striking. This helped to eliminate any telegraphing of my
strike.
When the brain “sees” the actual
technique… it will process and respond
with your practiced response.
I determined that if I truly wanted to attain a reflexive action, I had
to strike instantly at the first sensing of the thought “Now” and
my strike had to be completed before the thought was completed
allowing me to strike at the very instant I saw an opening. In other
words, the thought and the action became the same.
The speed of my strike was greatly increased by not telegraphing
my movement and automatically striking the instant I “saw” an
opening eliminating the lag time between thought and action.
The Brain doesn’t know Speed! This isn’t a concept I discovered
or came up with but rather a concept I had read about but I think
it's valuable to add to this discussion on Speed.
The brain processes at the speed of thought which for us is
instantly. Think about a place where you have visited and the brain
will instantly take you there.
What is the Speed of Thought relative to physical speed?
