BEYOND BASICS

hips drove the punch forward into the target. Keeping my

learning any new action, it’s usually
                          accompanied with a conscious thought
                                    to initiate the action.

punch. Allow the rear foot to slide forward as the body twists into
the punch to keep it from being an “anchor” which will limit
           forward movement.
The result is your opponent will allow your punch to get halfway
to the target before perceiving the attack.

I started this exercise after reading
           that Bruce Lee practiced by
punching at a small hanging piece
of cloth and I wondered why. So, I
hung my own small piece of cloth
from my bedroom ceiling light to
           try to find out why.
Now I’m not sure if I ever
           discovered why Bruce punched at
his piece of cloth, but mine helped
me to discover a way to develop
           “Reflexive Speed”.

Reflexes are a reaction caused by some sort of stimuli. To react
without thinking! Usually a defensive reaction.
This small piece of cloth helped me to develop not only Reflexive
           Speed but Reflexive Attacking Speed!
