2023 YOUNG DENTISTS VOLUNTEER GRANT
The ICD Section VIII Board is preparing to re-introduce the annual ICD Young Dentists Volunteer
(YDV) grant in 2023, following a hiatus due to COVID-19. Inaugural YDV grants were awarded in 2019
and 2020. Only recently has the 2020 recipient, Haneen Alayan (NZ), been able to participate in her
chosen volunteer program (see article in this newsletter).
The grant is a collaborative initiative with the New Zealand Dental Association (NZDA) and the
Australian Dental Association (ADA) and is to be awarded annually to a dentist in the Australasian
region with less than 10 years’ experience in clinical practice since graduation from dental school.
The value of the grant is up to $3,500 AUD to cover airfares, accommodation and other expenses
directly related to a one or two week volunteer experience as approved by the ICD Board. Volunteer
experiences are arranged with leaders of programs supported by the Australasia Section of ICD.
The program opportunities for the 2023 grant are currently under discussion with program leaders.
Applications for the 2023 grant will be opened early next year and will close on 31 July 2023.
If you know of a young dentist with less than 10 years’ experience since graduation who may be
interested in applying, they can contact the Section VIII Admin Officer, Dr Ron Robinson, on admin@
icdsectionviii.org to be sent an application form when the applications open next year. Full details
about the 2023 Young Dentists Volunteer grant will be published in the May 2023 edition of the
newsletter.
