Downtown Sacramento Report – Fall 2023
Downtown Sacramento BPW is still meeting virtually. During our July planning meeting we
agreed to try some evening meetings to see if we could increase attendance.
Our first evening meeting (August) featured member Barbara J Davis who expertly guided
us through a discussion on Celebrating Women’s Equality Day: What does it mean to you to-
day?
September, our second evening meeting, introduced us to Sacramento Mayoral Candidate,
Dr. Flo Cofer, a very dynamic women with impressive plans to improve the administration of the
city to better serve all constituents more fully.
October will be an evening joint meeting with our Twin Club, St. An-
drew (Jamaica), our first official joint meeting. We will explore Sexual Har-
assment-Universal and Cultural Specific. St. Andrew arranged this meeting
with a virtual Meet & Greet and fun "Ice Breaker". We will hear from their
2nd Vice President, Ms. Allasandra Chung, National President, Jamaica Red Cross in
Jamaica, on The Psycho-Social Support given to Victims of Abuse, Crises and Disaster.
There will also be a sharing of Poetry, Prose and Songs addressing the topic of "Sexual Harass-
ment - Universal and Culture Specific". Downtown Sacramento will present a follow up program
targeting Sacramento’s culturally diverse domestic violence challenges. (The Club’s programs
and how to register are listed on our CFBPW webpage - https://bpwcal.org/downtown-
sacramento-bpw-club/.)
As part of the Twinning process the two clubs have recognized our common goals
(mission/purpose/vision) and have identified areas of common interest: Sexual Harassment –
including different cultural perspectives, Safety/Security (physical/financial) for elderly, Violence
Against Women including Domestic Violence. These will be addressed in the next two years –
the established length of our Twinning commitment.
Our November program will cover NFBPW’s Military Affiliated Women pro-
gram with Chair Alice Gallop West and CFBPW’s MAW Chair Connie Stahl.
December, not unexpectedly, will feature a holiday theme and fun stuff planned by the al-
ways innovative Twila Stout and Janet Ramsey.
During the business portion of September’s meeting, it was agreed that after our sched-
uled October evening meeting we would go back to our traditional noon meetings. The switch-
up made no difference in attendance.
