VALLEY SUNSET DISTRICT

At Valley Sunset District’s Annual June Planning Meeting members scheduled
meeting dates, locations and themes for this year’s events. Each club and the Mem-
bers-At-Large will host one meeting.

The Fall Conference, held on September 30 and hosted by the Burbank Club, fea-
tured our 2023 Women of Achievement awards. This year’s Valley Sunset District hon-
oree was former Los Angeles City Council member, Joy Picus. Joy has been nationally
recognized for her efforts promoting opportunities for women.

Burbank BPW honored Laurie Bleick, the Executive Director of the Family Service
Agency. Lydia Steadman, president of Conejo Valley, a former teacher and symphony
violinist, was the honoree for her club. Hollywood BPW recognized Rosemary Lord, au-
thor of mystery novels, movie scripts, news articles and books about Los Angeles.

Also, in September members of Valley Sunset and Sierra Mar Districts attended
a performance of a new musical, The Right is Ours”. The play is the story of the friend-
ship of Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony, “friends who changed the
world.”

Valley Sunset’s Winter Conference will be hosted by the district members-at-large
and will focus on public policy issues. Conejo Valley will oversee the Annual Confer-
ence which will include speakers on prevention of gun violence and bullying. Our An-
nual Holiday Lunch will be planned by Hollywood BPW.
