The afternoon speaker was State Senator Susan Rubio. She reminded us that eve-
         ry ten years, after the census, California is redistricted. In 2024 Monterey Park will
         have a new State Senator. She will not be representing Monterey Park, San Gabriel
         and Rosemead, but until the election she will be taking care of these three cities. She
         talked about some of the bills she has and is supporting which affect women and fami-
         lies.

         Linda  Wilson, who is President  of  East  Los  Angeles-Montebello  BPW, is Sierra
         Mar’s Parliamentarian and  CFBPW’s  Webmaster  and serves on NFBPWC L3, Advoca-
         cy and Membership Committees. East  Los Angeles-Montebello BPW  meetings are the
         4th Tuesday of the month and usually at Marie Callender’s Restaurant, 209 S. Atlantic
         Blvd., Monterey Park starting at 4:30 P.M. for networking and 5:00 P.M. for dinner and
         the meeting.

         The Tuesday,  January  24th  meeting recognized our “Young Careerist for 2023.” This
         year’s honoree is Monique Rodriguez, who implemented  and oversees the Cal VIP, a
         program designed to provide intensive case management to at risk youth ages 10-18
         in order to reduce the cycle of generational violence for the Boys and Girls Club of West
         San Gabriel and Eastside. There were fourteen in attendance.

         The  Tuesday,  February  28th  meeting  was  on  Zoom  and  featured  reports  on  the
         CFBPW  Winter  Board  and  Public  Policy  Conferences.  The  speaker  was  to  be  Marjory
         Hopper, but  because of an accidental fall, she was unable to  do the program. There
         were ten in attendance.
         The Tuesday,  March  28th  meeting Martha Wheelock from ’Wild West Women Film”
         showed her film “Inez Milholland.” Milholland was a suffragist, lawyer and peace advo-
         cate. She was a graduate  of Vassar. Led parades in support of women’s suffrage and
         gave speeches across the nation on women’s suffrage. Her last speech was in Los An-
         geles  in  November  1916.  She  collapsed  on  the  stage  when  giving  the  speech  and
         passed away a few days later at the age of 30 from pernicious anemia. Wheelock’s pro-
         gram was for Women’s History Month (March). The program was on Zoom. There were
         twelve in attendance. Wheelock is inviting CFBPW members to view this film and her

                                                Looking ahead


         The Tuesday, April 25th program will be at Marie Callender’s Restaurant in Monterey
         Park. Bernice LaScala, formerly MERCI’s Associate Director of Programs and now with
         Lanterman Center for the Developmentally Disabled, will talk about “Regional Center
         Services” with Election of officers for 2023-24.

         The Tuesday, May 23rd program will be in recognition of Asian-American Heritage
         Month and include the installation of officers for 2023-24 and at Marie Callender’s Res-
         taurant. The speaker will be Lilian Karawatani, a member of East Los Angeles-
         Montebello BPW, speaking on Asian-Pacific history.
         The Tuesday, June 27th meeting will be program planning for 2023-24 and will
         also be at Marie Callender’s.                                                                     …/...
