Valley Sunset District

Your Valley Sunset District President and Executive Committee have
been pleased with our clubs and members at large who have been excel-
lent planners and organizers for each of our District conferences. We are now
looking forward to the annual meeting that our Burbank BPW club is organiz-
ing. Maryann Wesson will be the State Representative.

                                 The theme is “VOTING RIGHTS”!

                                     Susan B. Anthony reminds us:

“We must never forget the importance
                                       of making our voice heard.

                                         Someone struggled for
                                            your right to vote.”
                                                                                        https://en.wikipedia.org/
                                                                                        wikiVoting_rights_in_
https://en.wikipedia.org/ The Annual Valley Sunset District Conference the_United_States
wiki/Susan_B._Anthony will be held on April 29, 2023 at the Palm
Garden Hotel in Thousand Oaks. We will be learning more about Voting
Rights. We will have speakers from the League of Woman Voters speaking on the topic of
redistricting and how it affects us all.

Our second speaker is LaKenya Jordan, Deputy Secretary of State. In her capacity
as Deputy Secretary, she leads Policy and Planning for the Secretary of State and the imple-
mentation of the Voters Choice Act for the State of California. LaKenya also
served as Executive Director for California Commission on the Status of
Women and Girls. Her work at the Commission centered on leading the focus
on equity, equality, pay equity, workplace rights, promoting positive images
of women and girls in the media, and increasing the number of girls engaged
in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (S.T.E.A.M.). Her track
record in public service matches 15 years of private sector experience in
business. She is passionate about the uplift and empowerment of women
                              and underserved populations.

To support our National Young BPW initiative we will also be asking our members to
bring feminine hygiene products to be distributed to two local non-profits that deal with un-
housed people and women transitioning from being trafficked.

We will also be electing new officers for the 2023-2025 term.

We look forward to your attendance at our annual conference.
