THIRTEEN

Betsy and Dan spent a lively evening at their neighbor and good friends Chopras’ home,

celebrating Anne’s birthday. Wine flowed as the evening passed and the party got noisier.

Amongst all the fun and frolic Dan noticed that Vikram (Vik) and Anne were not their usual

self. In fact, they seemed to be playacting ‘happy couple’, with abysmal results. This deeply

concerned him as Vik and Anne were not only their good friends but also a lovely couple.

Getting home past midnight, Dan brought up the subject with Betsy, “Did you notice

something unusual at the party Bet?”

“Anne shared few things with me earlier in the evening. I wanted to tell you but did not

have a chance in hurry to get to their party. Yes, not everything is fine. As we both care for

them, it will be a long discussion Dan. Let us talk about it tomorrow.”

“Sure Bet. Can we talk at the golf course or should we cancel our game tomorrow?”

“It will be much better if we do it uninterrupted. Discussing at home will be much better,”

Dan nodded, pulled out his mobile and opened the golf club app to cancel their booking.

They were both up early the next day as the night was rather restless. After quick breakfast,

they sat in the garden. Neither of them had said anything about the Chopras this morning.
