Dan walked into Ron’s office, excitement clearly showing on his face. Ron met him with usual
enthusiasm. Once pleasantries were over and they settled down, Ron said, “Congratulations Dan for
meeting Walmart commitment despite the last-minute problem.”
Dan was surprised that Ron was aware of the cap problem. He had always believed that only bad
news travelled up that fast in The Global Company!
‘I had briefly mentioned it to Joe, but I did it in passing, well after the problem had been resolved. I must try to
understand how Ron is aware of an issue that was resolved within hours and had no impact on the results,’ thought
Dan. ‘Probably another learning opportunity here!’
“It was really important for the company to meet this commitment because Walmart would have
delisted Evershine otherwise; that is why the CEO got involved.” continued Ron.
“Thanks Ron. The team did a great job; I am glad we were able to honor this important
commitment despite the challenge.” Dan said.
“How have you been? Were you able to record your observations and learnings as we agreed?”
Ron asked, finally coming to the subject. “I hope there were some learnings.” He smiled.
“Yes Ron. I did. And Yes, there are significant learnings for me. I must thank you.”
“No need to thank me Dan; learnings are yours. Tell me what you learnt?”
Dan paused to collect his thoughts as he wanted his reply to be crisp. “I learnt that when we listen
to people and accept their suggestions, it values and empowers them, and produces better decisions,
solutions and results.”
