“Nicely put.” He paused, looked at him intently and asked, “Something seems to be bothering you

Dan. What is it?

Dan looked at the whiteboard and said, “I made an error in that picture. The center point of that

picture should be Listening as it is the heart of communication.”

“No problem Dan; we will fix it later.”

“Right now, I have a question. How did you communicate to me that something is bothering you?”

Dan was taken aback. “Ron, I did not communicate.”

“Didn’t you? Then how did I come to know that something was bothering you?”

Dan was quiet for a while. “Probably through my expressions or body language.”

“True. So, do you agree that there was some communication between us. If yes, are there other

communication forms beyond Spoken and Written?” Ron inquired.

Dan had to think. “Yes Ron. It appears so. Probably there is a third form – Seen.”

“Would you want to correct your picture then?”

Dan walked back to the whiteboard and made some changes to the picture.

“Why is Listen in the center Dan?”

Dan thought for a few seconds before replying, “I realized that Listening is the heart of

communication and most of us are weak at that; we listen to answer, not to understand. So,

we start to prepare the answer or the next question while the other person has still not finished;

if only we could listen and seek to understand first, many problems could be prevented.”

“Very well said Dan. I understand what you mean. But I request you to think carefully if your

picture is complete or if something is missing.”
