                  Dan replied after few minutes, “My picture does not show the relationships.”

                  Ron smiled. “Sorry to take you through this exercise Dan. But it is critically important that you

               understand this well. Communication is the most important reason for individual success or failure;

               not only in professional but also in our personal lives.”

                  Ron continued, “Let us now go back to the communication through expressions and body

               language. I ‘saw’ through your expressions that you were not your usual attentive self. So, I ‘felt’ and

               ‘thought’ that there must be something bothering you.”

                  Ron paused, looked Dan directly in the eye and said, “Communication involves all our senses; part

               of the message is conveyed nonverbally through our eyes, facial expressions, gestures, body language,

               tone and silence.”

                  “Trained people know this and ensure that their thoughts and feelings are not betrayed

               involuntarily. In fact, they go a step further and voluntarily use nonverbals to spice-up and strengthen

               their verbal communication.”

                  “For the untrained, nonverbal communication is involuntary and telltale; expert communicators

               cautiously look for nonverbal signs as it reveals inner thoughts and feelings, which helps them to grasp

               the entire and often even the unspoken message.”

                  Dan was listening awestruck as he had just seen a mini demonstration of this concept. “It is an

               important lesson Ron that no communication training ever taught us. How can one get trained?”

                  “It comes with awareness and experience. Let us hope that you will get the concepts today. It is up

               to you beyond that.”
