CHAPTER THREE
User navigation behavior
To better understand real user navigation behavior, I conducted a user journey test with a freshman volunteer at SETU Carlow. The task was to find Classroom
106 in Building G using only existing campus signage or by asking others. I followed the student as an observer and recorded the full navigation process.
This test revealed several key issues with the existing
navigation system: lack of direction at the entrance,
outdated maps, unclear signage around and inside
buildings, and no coherent link between different
guidance tools. Although the user eventually succeeded,
the process was slow, uncertain, and stressful.
