The charitable arm of Alpha Kappa Alpha
Sorority, Inc., Epsilon Gamma Omega Chapter,
honored seven individuals at its 11th Annual
White Linen Brunch on Saturday, June 17, at the
Ernest L. Knight Center at Alabama A&M
University.
In addition to awarding scholarships and
supporting local charities, the Ivy Center of
Huntsville/Madison County Foundation, Inc.,
paid tribute to persons through its 2017 “Making
a Difference” Award. The distinction was given
to individuals who have made exemplary
contributions in the categories of civic affairs, health, young adult, religion, media, economics and education.
Honorees included Ronald and Patricia McIntosh, Civic Award; Martin Van Sherrill, M.D., Health Award;
Hon. Devyn Keith, Young Adult Award; Rev. Dr. O. Wendell Davis, Religion Award; Jerome Saintjones,
Media Award; Dr. Andrew Hugine, Jr., Economics Award; and Gene Perry, Education Award.
The yearly White Linen Brunch is the Ivy Center
Foundation’s annual fundraiser, and all proceeds are used
for charitable purposes. Among the dozen recipients of
the Foundation’s community grant were the Boys and
Girls Clubs of North Alabama; CASA of Madison
County; Greater Huntsville Chapter , The Links,
Incorporated; Harris
Home for Children,
Incorporated;
HEALS,
Incorporated;
Huntsville
Community Drumline; Huntsville Inter City Learning Center; James A.
Lane Boys and Girls Club; North Alabama Sickle Cell Foundation;
Tennessee Valley Jazz Society and Union Hill Personal Growth Center.
Dr. Datie Priest, Ivy Center board member, presided over the program. Dr.
Jeanette Jones (above) serves as president of the Foundation.
