TARGET III - FAMILY STRENGTHENING CHILDHOOD HUN-
GER; SEASONAL WRAPS
MLK Day of Service
On Monday, January 15, 2018, sixty-seven volunteers, composed of members of
Epsilon Gamma Omega, Omicron Zeta, ASCEND students and friends/family
members of Epsilon Gamma Omega, joined forces on to celebrate and, most im-
portantly, honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
This Community Impact Day, led by Soror Leteria Moses Waters, Target III chair-
man, answered Dr. King’s call, “What are you doing for others?”
We served as greeters and prepared breakfast food trays to 154 Huntsville, Ala-
bama community homeless men and women at the Downtown Rescue Mission
(DRM). Additionally, Sorors were asked to “clean their closets” to help clothe the
residents at the DRM. Sorors drove up to the Agape Shop, which is located on the
grounds of the DRM, and were able to drop off their items to Sorors waiting to
take them directly into the store. We collected and donated 500 items of clothing.
What a wonderful impact we collectively made to the Greater Huntsville Communi-
ty!!!!
The Downtown Rescue Mission is a nonprofit organization that serve the homeless
community throughout northern Alabama and southern Tennessee. Their mission is
to “help bring hope and opportunity to men, women and children who are physically
and spiritually broken and exhausted.”
Supporting the Downtown Rescue Mission was definitely a “day on” and not a “day
off” and our humble way to celebrate Dr. King through service to all mankind.
