DEBUTANTE BALL ACTIVITY

59th Debutante Presentation and Ball
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Epsilon Gamma Omega Chapter
held its 59th Annual Debutante Presentation and Ball on Friday, February 17,
2017, at the Von Braun Center, North Hall. The purpose of this signature event
is to enrich the cultural development of outstanding young women in the
Huntsville and surrounding areas by enhancing their skills in educational,
cultural, social, and service programs. The theme for the evening was
“Unforgettable.”
Thirty-four young
women made their
formal entrance
into society before
a large crowd of
family, friends and
guests. The North Hall was magically transformed into
an unforgettable scene, decorated with shades of pink
and green, and draped gazebo was at center stage,
covered in spring flowers, ferns, and greenery.
The evening consisted of the presentation of the
debutantes, the mesmerizing choreographed cotillion
and, the awarding of collegiate scholarships. Three
aspiring college bound young women were the recipients
of the scholarships. Third place recipient of The Mattie
D. Battle Scholarship, for $4,000, was awarded to
Debutante Alexandria Bell. Second place recipient of the Mary M. Chambers Scholarship for $4,500 was
awarded to Debutante Arianna Haynes. First place recipient of the Harriet J. Terry Scholarship in the amount
of $5,500 was awarded to Debutante Shelby Vaughn. The distinguished Eva Cathey Award was presented to
Debutante Kyrstin Stanley. The enchanting evening culminated with a formal dinner and music for dancing.
The evening was truly “Unforgettable”. Soror E. Christine Moss served as the Chairman of the ball, Soror
Leteria Moses Waters, Co-Chairman, and Dr. Wilma J. Ruffin, President, Epsilon Gamma Omega Chapter.
