questions. The last two presentations by Sorors Karen Turnage, Eugena Goggans and Daphne Thurman
centered on college scholarships, college essays, resumes and career exploration. Students concluded their day
watching the movie, Hidden Figures, at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center.

Students in the ASCEND program receive academic enrichment and life skills training to support college or
vocational employment. Students spend a minimum of 4 hours per month participating in ASCEND activities.
Soror Dawn Stanley leads our ASCEND program.

        Believing In Students: The Power to ASCEND (March)

People have a variety of gifts and EGO is making strides to help
develop and discover the paths of success for high school
student in their ASCEND Program. ASCEND students
participated in a college tour, a hands on robotics demonstration,
began to create a budget and learned about Financial Aid
opportunities. The following professionals were present to
present helpful information.

Ms. Melinda Ingles, Career Coach with Drake State Community
and Technical College provided information was given about
Drake’s successful welding program. Ms. Ingles also
highlighted the wide variety of programs offered by Drake and the financial and professional benefits of
strategic college and career planning.
