Conclusion
This paper describes an effective technology for TIG welding of AMg6 alloy up to 8 mm
thick using flux-cored strips. The use of flux tape allows you to clean the weld from oxide
inclusions and eliminate the large porosity of the weld metal. Best results obtained with flux
tape with a flux thickness equal to 0.2 - 0.4 mm. Better quality welded joints of AMg6 alloy
with high strength are observed when using a flux tape fixed to the back of the plates before
welding. The proposed welding method makes it possible to reduce labor intensity and increase
the productivity of the process of manufacturing welded products; it is quite simple and does not
require replacement of conventional equipment. For some thicknesses, the proposed welding
method is quite competitive with the widely used MIG welding (TIG welding) of aluminum alloys
using ceramic backings. Industrial tests of this method during TIG welding of hull structures
of gas turbine hydrofoil vessels at FPA "Sea" have confirmed the possibility of its application in
industry.
