Caring for smell and taste
Caring for the senses of taste and smell allow for smells and flavours to be
perceived properly. Some healthy habits to take care of them are:
• Use a handkerchief, preferably disposable, to blow your nose.
• Breathe through the nose to heat the air that enters your lungs; this helps
to avoid colds.
• Brush your teeth and tongue with a toothbrush and toothpaste.
• Do not eat very hot or very cold foods.
Ear and eye care
For proper hearing and to prevent infection, the external ear canals must be
kept clear. To clean the ear, only soap and water or physiological solutions
should be used. Cotton swabs should never be put into the ear.
The eyes have their own cleaning mechanism made up of the lacrimal
system and the eyelids, which keep the external surface of the eyeball
clean and moist. To take care of the sense of sight, it is good to adopt
healthy habits:
• See an ophthalmologist if you notice that it is difficult for you to focus or
your eyes are fatigued.
• Use a good light to read and study.
• Always keep a sufficient distance from television or computer screens
and do not spend too much time in front of them.
