Roald Dahl
Roald Dahl is a famous author who has written books that children love, such
as Charlie and The Chocolate Factory and James and The Giant Peach. He studied
in 3 schools. However, he did not attend college and, at the age of 18, he decided to
work at the “Shell Of Company" which was located in Africa. During World War II he
became a fighter pilot. He then started writing. His first book was named “The Sat-
urday Evening Post”. After that, he found his interest in writing and started writing
books for children.
The first book I read by Roald Dahl was Charlie and The Chocolate Factory.
This book was also one of our Grade 4 course books. There were a few words I
didn’t understand, however, I went through my dictionary to find the meanings of the
words. Charlie and The Chocolate Factory is a fantasy fiction. When Willy Wonka
was retiring, I was really sad for Charlie, because he would not be able to buy choco-
lates anymore. However, when the new owner of the Chocolate Factory was Char-
lie, I was over the moon! I felt so happy for him. He really deserved that chocolate
factory for loving chocolates that much. However, I still feel bad for the other four
contestants.
I like Roald Dahl’s books and so do other children, but some of them love them
because of his writing style, the unexpected plot twists and the crazy new words.
We get to learn new words day by day by reading his books. In fact, he has invented
500 new words and character names. Roald Dahl has accomplished many achieve-
ments in his life and will always be remembered as one of the most loved children’s
book authors.
