Roy went with half of his company to enter
homes in Bint Jabal whereupon they
encountered a house that was difficult to break.
His team prepared an explosive charge in order
to break in and Roy gave an order to maintain
distance from the structure.
Terrorists suddenly, and seemingly from
nowhere, ambushed Roy and his company,
sending grenades and gunfire their way. Roy’s
second-in-command rushed towards the
encircling enemy, in order to repel them while
Roy remained with the company. Suddenly Roy
noticed a live grenade right in the midst of his
comrades and uttering “Shema Yisrael” he leapt
upon it, perishing in the name of protecting and
saving his fellow soldiers.
