‫בס"ד‬

          Continued from page 5

Y: What do you remember from the Yom
                             Kippur War?

C: In all the other wars to this point Israel
struck preemptively, but in this instance the
Egyptians ambushed us with a surprise
ssault. I was at the synagogue during the
morning prayers of Yom Kippur. We
suddenly heard the radio broadcasting the -
passwords of each soldier (each soldier had a
                             personal secret identifying password), so
when I heard mine called I immediately went
to the base. We drove to Tze'elim base and
from there on iron chains, transported the
tanks up to the Suez Canal.

We drove 16 hours in succession. I
was a tank commander so my head was
always out of the tank on alert. On the
way south, was a tree branch that jutted
out across the road and because I was
looking the other way I didn’t notice it at
all. At the last second someone pulled
me down and this is the first miracle that
happened to me during that war. We
reached the canal, hunkered down and
started firing on the Egyptians along with
the Paratroopers.
