Continued from page 8
I was in active service for almost the entire war and was
only home for the last few days. Your mother, Keren,
saved the family from suffocation by preparing all the
masks so the family could breathe well. She
was only 12 years old.
Y: Have you ever been afraid to fight?
C: In the beginning there are fears and those who are
not afraid cannot fight. The biggest fear is for my soldiers
to return safely and that our enemies will not be able to
conquer us and win. The fear that the people of Israel
would lose the war mainly on Yom Kippur was real. We
were never afraid of our own capabilities.
Y: Have you lost friends in wars?
C: Seven of my comrades from our battalion were
killed. I saw them dead before my eyes. Some of themdied
inside the tank. It is a difficult sight. I cried and prayed for
them.
Y: Did you think you would stay alive?
C: I trusted Hashem to save us from this Inferno.
Y: What does Israel mean to you?
C: Home. The heart. Life. The soul. The inheritance
of the fathers. The
House of the People of Israel. Everything.
