152 The Unforgettable Moments in Life
Secret Santa
By Nymiria W.
My favorite tradition is Secret Santa. Around Christmas, we do Secret Santa, which is
something that we do for each other. We start off by drawing a name, not telling each other
whose names we got. We go and get presents for the person whose name we drew and get
them things they enjoy. On the day of Christmas, we go to the living room and dance to get a gift
from the other person on Christmas Day.
It is very fun and I really enjoy
the company, being around the
ones that genuinely make a
person happy.
The Secret Santa is given a wish
list of gift ideas to choose from to
give to their chosen giftee. After
opening their present, the giftee
has to guess which member of the
group was their Secret Santa. It's a holiday classic where guessing is as much a part of the fun
as receiving the gift. Secret Santa is a traditional western tradition. It is thought that the
philanthropist, Larry Dean Stewart, came up with the idea of giving mystery gifts during the
holiday season. In fact, Stewart anonymously donated $100 bills to people in the state of
Kansas. Although no one is really sure of the exact origins of this fun tradition, it is celebrated all
over the world. Secret Santa Fun Facts: Secret Santa is called “Kris Kringel” in the United
Kingdom. Deriving from the Christian tradition, the ritual is known as Secret Santa in the United
States and the United Kingdom.
