56 The Unforgettable Moments in Life

Kayaking Trip By Dixie Mae Stevens

My name is Dixie Mae, and I am

an average height for a 14 year old

girl, 5’5. I have blonde hair and blue

eyes. I wear lots of jewelry with

leggings and t-shirts. I was at my

                                                                       local boat ramp in Springdale,

                                                                       Arkansas near the 412 highway.

The local boat ramp by the 412 highway in
                                                                       Springdale Arkansas.

There is a narrow road to the ramp with barely any trees around it, nowhere to sit down, or

to fish. One afternoon we put our kayaks in the water. The red kayaks were really big with a

cooler right in the middle weighing it down. It held all of our food and drinks. Every time I

handed them something, the kayak would lean more and more into the water. When we got into

the deeper parts of the water, we got deeper into the rift. The kayaks were lighter than a feather

so they went faster than the water did. I could barely keep up with my family because of the

cooler in the middle of my kayak.

The lake was huge and had trees everywhere. There were a lot of tree obstacles that got in

our way and we had a lot of floating grass everywhere that would get stuck on the sides of the

kayaks, slowing us down. The lake sounded exactly like I had just come out of heaven. It had a

nice peaceful, quiet sound with birds chirping and the wind in my face. It felt like I was floating

in the air as I rode smoothly with the current. Besides the echo of my sister and my family

yelling down the long, wide lake, it was very peaceful. An hour later, we were rowing faster and
