60 The Unforgettable Moments in Life
My First Fishing Trip
By D. Garcia
My mom was born in Munguia, GTO, Mexico. It's a
very small town, but you can make a lot of memories
there. When you first drive down the mountain, you see
old, abandoned houses, but once you start getting to the center of the town, you see all the
blooming trees and the beautiful church in the middle. You can hear the cars coming down
because of all the rocks and gravel. You can see the kids playing with their toys in the park.
One summer day when the countryside was all green and our house was next to the lake,
I was invited to go fishing. The fish were always next to the edge of the lake. All the people of
the town could take fish out of the water with their bare hands. I was 10 years old the first time
they invited us to fish with our hands. When we went down there we had a basket with food that
had jarritos. It also had bolillo and concha.
It was an extraordinary experience for me. The fish was so big
for a ten-year-old girl to catch. As I grabbed them, I could feel my
arms trembling with pain. They were probably like 50 lbs., but I never
gave up. I caught about five of them.
After fishing we started cooking them in the little kitchen we
had in our house. We used a pot made of barro. My mom told my
sister and me to cut the fish and take everything. As I grabbed all the
insides of the fish, I could feel the organs between my fingers as they slipped down my hands
and arms. When they were finally served, I could smell the lemon and the pepper on my plate.
When I bit into it, I could feel and smell the fish. Everyone in my family enjoyed the food.
